Puppy Training Program

PUPPY TRAINING PROGRAM

Over the years, we have had families ask if we offer extra training for their puppies. This option has not been available until now.

L.A. Doodles is pleased to offer an “Introduction to Puppy Training Program”

Because the puppies will need individual attention, we are limiting this program to two families per litter.

 Four-Week Puppy Training Program

L.A. Doodles raises its puppies using many of the Puppy Culture protocols. Puppy Culture is a program that helps engage puppies and teaches them critical skills, including stress responses, problem-solving, and more! We want to give each puppy the best start at a long and happy life with their Forever Family.

Puppies are trained using Positive Reinforcement

This early imprinting establishes a great foundation for continued obedience training

Your puppy will join our Puppy Training Program at eight weeks of age and start their introduction to learning basic commands. During this time, your puppy will be loved and cared for while learning new things.

Every puppy is different and learns at their own pace. Please be aware that this is an introductory training program. When your puppy goes home, continued training on your part is essential.

What will my puppy be working on in their four-week training?

  • Your puppy will continue to interact with our adult dogs, which ensures that your pup continues learning bite inhibition and manners from excellent teachers —  other dogs.
  • Crate training – afternoon naps and overnight. Puppies are usually accident-free in their crate and sleep anywhere from 6 to 8 hours at night by 12 weeks of age.
  • Outdoor potty training started
  • Grooming – daily brushing, weekly ear cleaning, and nail clipping. This helps establish a grooming routine for your puppy, helping them feel comfortable during grooming.
  • Leash Walking – learning to walk on a loose leash.
  • One-on-one training of basic commands: sit, touch, down, stay, come, and look at me.
  • Socialization with people of all ages
  • Socialization outside the home – e.g., car rides, retirement home visits, store visits

What is included?

  • Your puppy will be fed high-quality food and treats while in our care.
  • Your puppy will have veterinary visit to receive a wellness check and the puppy’s second set of vaccinations
  • Your puppy will be freshly bathed, ears cleaned, nails trimmed, and blow-dried for Go-Home Day.
  • Training session for the family on pick-up day.

Puppies enrolled in these programs go home knowing basic commands and are generally accident-free in their crates. However, the puppy is not mature enough to master commands thoroughly.

This early imprinting establishes a foundation for ongoing obedience training.

Once they are in your care, they will need continued repetition of the commands they have learned and additional training.

Although you puppy will be started on outdoor potty training, continued training on your part is required. Please keep in mind that puppies are not mature enough to master potty training until they are at least four to six months of age.

When you take your puppy home

  • When you bring your puppy home, continue training with positive reinforcement and build on the early imprinting begun while they were in our care.
  • Remember, your twelve-week-old puppy is still young and has much to learn as they grow and develop.
  • Be patient with your puppy when you bring them home. They are adjusting to a new family and environment. It will take time for them to settle in and feel comfortable in their new family home.

The effort put into the continued teaching and training of your puppy will be worthwhile when you have a well-trained adult dog that loves unconditionally, as only a dog can.

The video’s below show puppies in the four-week training program.

Four-week Program – puppy training
Watch puppies during their daily leash-walking training session. Puppies have a short attention span, so training sessions are kept short.

Practicing the “Sit” Command

As we interact with the puppies throughout the day, they practice their commands. This reinforces what they have been learning during their daily training sessions. For example, when the puppy wants attention, it needs to sit before receiving food or a pat. Practice makes perfect!
